The Development of an Ear Training Skill Set Using the Doodling Method for Grade 3 Students at Ban Saihong Community School

Abstract

The objective of this research was to develop an ear training skill set using the Doodling Method for Grade 3 students at Ban Saihong Community School. The study aimed to compare students’ academic achievement before and after using the training set, assess its effectiveness, and evaluate students' satisfaction with the method. This experimental research was conducted with a sample group of 20 students over eight learning sessions. The study incorporated the Southern Thai folk song "Chan Mali Chan" as a learning medium combined with the Doodling Method, which utilizes freehand drawing to enhance students’ concentration and memory. The findings revealed that students who trained with the ear training skill set based on the Doodling Method showed significantly higher post-test scores compared to pre-test scores (p < 0.05). The effectiveness index of the training set (E1/E2) was 80.70/82.25, exceeding the standard criterion of 80/80. Additionally, students expressed a very high level of satisfaction. In conclusion, the study suggests that applying the Doodling Method effectively enhances students’ ear training skills and can be adapted for other subjects requiring auditory perception and memory development.
