Abstract

This research article aims to study the use of the guitar based on Harrow’s psychomotor domain theory to develop fundamental music performance skills among Grade 10 students. The development of psychomotor skills was systematically structured into stages, including imitation, guided response, precise and complete performance, expressive performance, and natural and automatic performance. Learning activities were designed to align with these stages through four consecutive instructional sessions. The sample consisted of five students, and the research employed an action research methodology involving planning, implementation, observation, and reflection to continuously improve learning activities based on student development. Data were collected through observation, video recordings, interviews, and skill assessments. The findings revealed that students showed continuous progress in their performance skills, including i

This research article aims to develop the basic musical skills of Grade 10 students by using the guitar as the primary learning instrument within the framework of Harrow’s psychomotor domain theory. The development of behavioral skills was systematically sequenced through stages, including imitation, manipulation, precision, articulation, and naturalization. The learning activities were designed to align with these stages and were conducted over four consecutive sessions. The target group consisted of five students. An action research methodology was employed, involving planning, implementation, observation, and reflection, to continuously improve learning activities based on learners’ progress. Data were collected through observation, video recordings, interviews, and skill assessments. The findings revealed continuous improvement in the learners’ practical skills, including increased confidence, accuracy in playing, and the ability to express emotions through guitar performance. Therefore, the guitar plays a significant role as an instrument that promotes systematic motor skill development, fosters discipline, creativity, and natural expressive abilities in the learners.
