Needs Assessment and Development Guidelines for Innovative Management to Enhance Career Skills in Secondary Schools
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to: (1) assess the priority needs for innovative management to enhance career skills in secondary schools; and (2) formulate development guidelines for innovative management to enhance career skills in secondary schools. The sample consisted of 210 secondary school administrators from Inspectorate Areas 15, 16, 17, and 18, selected through a multistage sampling procedure. The research instrument was a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire, whose content validity was verified by five experts. The overall reliability coefficient of the instrument was .94. Quantitative data were analyzed using percentages, means, standard deviations, and the Modified Priority Needs Index (PNI_modified). Development guidelines were derived through content analysis of open-ended responses and issues identified as having high priority needs indices. The findings revealed that the overall priority needs index was 0.31. The dimension with the highest priority need was innovation creation and development (PNI_modified = 0.35), followed by innovative thinking (0.34), innovative management (0.33), career skills promotion (0.32), innovative networking and collaboration (0.31), and innovative leadership (0.23), respectively. The proposed development guidelines included fostering an organizational culture open to change, identifying innovation agendas based on authentic school-based problems, adopting participatory and data-informed management practices, developing administrators’ coaching leadership, strengthening collaborative networks, and providing authentic career-related learning experiences accompanied by appropriate assessment practices. These findings suggest that innovative management in secondary schools should be developed systematically and in context to strengthen students’ career skills and align with educational and workforce demands in the twenty-first century.
