The Development of Reading Comprehension Ability in Thai Language Using Learning Management with SQ4R Technique Associated with Mind Map for Prathomsuksa 4 Students -

Abstract

This study aimed to 1) develop Thai reading comprehension ability through learning management using the SQ4R technique associated with mind map for Prathomsuksa 4 students to achieve an average score of not less than 70 percent of the total score, with at least 70 percent of the students meeting the criterion; and 2) investigate students’ satisfaction toward the learning management using the SQ4R technique associated with mind map. This research employed a one-group posttest-only design. The sample consisted of 30 Prathomsuksa 4/1 students from Pipat Ratsadornbamrung School, selected by cluster random sampling. The research instruments included: (1) six lesson plans based on the SQ4R technique associated with mind map, totaling 10 instructional hours; (2) a reading comprehension test consisting of 32 multiple-choice items with four options; and (3) a students’ satisfaction questionnaire toward the learning management using the SQ4R technique associated with mind map, constructed as a 5-point rating scale with 15 items. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results revealed that (1) the students’ average reading comprehension score was 27.54, accounting for 86.06 %, and all students (100%) met the 70% criterion, which was higher than the set criterion. The highest scoring aspect was critical reading ability; and (2) the students’ overall satisfaction toward the learning management using the SQ4R technique associated with mind map was at a high level.
