The Results of Learning Management in a Gamification Environment Based on Active Learning Concept to Enhance Reflective Thinking and Thai Writing Ability for Communication of Grade 11 Students Under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Bangkok 1
Main Article Content
Abstract
Communication through Thai writing is a competency that fundamentally requires reflective thinking processes. The application of a gamification environment integrated with active learning is thus a crucial innovation to address learning problems and elevate such competency. The objectives of this research were to study the development of reflective thinking and Thai writing ability for communication during learning through learning management activities in a gamification environment based on the active learning concept, and to compare the learning achievement in Thai language for communication before and after the intervention. The research employed a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design with repeated measures. The sample, obtained through cluster random sampling, consisted of 124 Grade 11 students at Benchamarachalai School under the Royal Patronage during the first semester of the 2024 academic year. The research instruments comprised learning management plans, a reflective thinking measurement scale, a writing assessment form, and a learning achievement test. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and dependent samples t-test. The research results revealed that the learners exhibited a continuously significant increase in their developmental scores regarding reflective thinking and Thai writing ability for communication across all testing periods. Additionally, the post-test learning achievement in the Thai language was higher than the pre-test at a statistical significance level of 0.05. The instructional management model integrating gamification with active learning consists of 4 steps: 1) stimulating interest through challenging contexts, 2) learning via active activities within a game environment, 3) practicing to develop writing skills, and 4) engaging in reflective thinking to conceptualize the body of knowledge. These steps serve as mechanisms facilitating the development of the classroom into a space of psychological safety and mitigating learning anxiety.
