A Study of Learning Achievement in Reading Music Notation through the “UNO Music Game” Using Southern Thai Folk Song among Level 2 Students at Bannamkrachai School Songkhla Province
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to: (1) develop the “UNO Music” educational game to achieve the efficiency criterion of 80/80 for improving students’ ability to read Western music notation, and (2) compare students’ learning achievement before and after using the game. The sample, selected via purposive sampling, consisted of 36 Level 2 students from Bannamkrachai School, Songkhla Province. The experiment was conducted for two class periods per week for seven weeks. The research instruments comprised lesson plans, a pre-test, formative tests, a post-test, a performance record form, and the “UNO Music” educational game. The researchers analyzed the data by determining the game's efficiency (E1/E2) and comparing pre-test and post-test scores. The findings indicated that the “UNO Music” game achieved an efficiency of 85.51/87.50, exceeding the 80/80 criterion. Also, there was a statistically significant difference at .05 level in students’ post-test and pre-test scores, demonstrating that the game effectively improved students’ music notation reading skills. The results suggest that educational games are an effective, innovative instructional tool for enhancing students’ music notation reading skills and fostering motivation in music education.
