Online Learning Readiness of Chaiyaphum Technical College’s Students in an Uncertain Circumstance of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic

This research aimed to assess the level of online learning readiness among students at Chaiyaphum Technical College during the uncertain circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study involved 352 students selected through stratified sampling technique across 11 divisions. The research instrument was an online questionnaire on student’s readiness to study online in 8 dimensions, and student’s opinions about advantages, problems and obstacles in online learning, which was modified from previous research. Statistics used in data analysis were mean score, standard deviation, and t-test. The results indicated that Chaiyaphum Technical College students exhibited a moderate level of readiness for online learning, with a mean of = 3.36 and a standard deviation of S.D. = 0.88 for external factors, and = 3.39 with S.D. = 0.85 for internal factors. Notably, female students displayed a significantly higher readiness level than their male counterparts, specifically in the dimension of motivation for online learning. Additionally, diploma students demonstrated higher readiness for online learning when compared to certificate students across various dimensions, including technology equipment, self-control, motivation for learning, and self-efficacy in online communication. Furthermore, students majoring in commerce exhibited significantly higher readiness for online learning in dimensions related to self-efficacy in computer and internet use and motivation for learning, as compared to students in the field of industrial technology. The study also identified the three most crucial advantages of online learning, as perceived by the students: 1) the ability to access recorded materials repeatedly, 2) the provision of a flexible and convenient learning environment, and 3) the reduction in learning costs, such as dormitory and transportation expenses. Conversely, students identified the three most significant problems and obstacles faced during online learning as: 1) the inability to effectively practice practical skills, 2) an increase in the volume of homework, and 3) challenges in comprehending online content.
