The Effects of Using an Online Guidance Activities Package on Attitudes toward Peer Selection among Male Juvenile Offenders under the Rehabilitation Process of the Chanthaburi Juvenile and Family Court

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to 1) compare the peer selection attitudes of male youth offenders undergoing the rehabilitation process at the Chanthaburi Juvenile and Family Court before and after participating in an online guidance activities package 2) compare the peer selection attitudes of male youth offenders participating in the online guidance activities package with those of male youth offenders undergoing the standard rehabilitation process. The research design was a quasi-experimental study. The sample consisted of 40 male juvenile offenders undergoing the rehabilitation process of the Chanthaburi Juvenile and Family Court. They were ranked in ascending order according to their peer selection attitude scores, matched into 20 pairs based on similar scores, and then randomly assigned to the experimental and control groups. The research instruments included: 1) a peer selection attitude scale with a reliability coefficient of .93. 2) online guidance activities package designed to promote positive peer selection attitudes. 3) the standard rehabilitation program. Data Analysis: Statistics used included Median, Quartiles, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test, and Mann-Whitney U Test.

The research findings revealed that 1) after participating in the online guidance activities package, the male youth offenders showed a statistically significant increase in positive peer selection attitudes at the .05 level and 2) after the intervention, the male youth offenders who participated in the online guidance activities package had significantly higher positive peer selection attitude scores than those in the standard rehabilitation group at the .05 level.
