DEVELOPMENT OF AN ONLINE CURRICULUM TO ENHANCE KNOWLEDGE OF STRATEGIC PLANNING FOR FACILITIES IN SPORTS AND RECREATION

Abstract

This study pursued two primary objectives: 1) To assess the efficiency of a newly designed online curriculum targeting strategic planning for sports and recreational facilities against the standard 80/80 criterion, and 2) To explore the educational impacts of this web-based training. The sample consisted of 30 sports and recreation personnel in professional organizations, selected through voluntary sampling. Criterion sampling was utilized to obtain a sample that met the research conditions, along with purposive sampling. The participants voluntarily participated in the research and engaged until the completion of the process. For data collection and intervention, three main instruments were utilized: The online course titled 'Strategies for Planning Facilities in Sports and Recreation, a cognitive achievement assessment measuring knowledge and comprehension, and a user satisfaction survey. Statistical evaluation of the gathered information involved descriptive parameters-namely, means and standard deviations-alongside a t-test analysis. The findings were as follows: 1) The efficiency of the online curriculum successfully achieved the targeted 80/80 benchmark. The developmental phase encompassed three iterative trials. The initial stage was dedicated to program evaluation and refinement for quality enhancement. Subsequently, the second trial produced an E1/E2 efficiency ratio of 87.72/89.00, and the final third trial reached 89.88/90.11, both satisfying the established standard. 2) In terms of learning outcomes, the post-intervention scores reflecting the participants’ knowledge and understanding of the subject matter were significantly higher than their pre-intervention scores at a .05 3) The overall satisfaction with the online course was at the highest level ( = 4.71, S.D. = 0.35). Considering each aspect, it was found that satisfactionwas at the highest level in all aspects.
