Abstract

This research article aimed to 1) Develop a learning management approach using problem-based learning in conjunction with the STEAM4INNOVATOR curriculum; 2) Study problem-solving thinking skills; 3) Study innovative creative thinking skills; 4) Study reflective thinking outcomes; and 5) Study the learning achievement of students who received the aforementioned learning management approach. The sample consisted of 110 Grade 8 students. The research instruments included lesson plans based on problem-based learning in conjunction with the STEAM4INNOVATOR curriculum, a problem-solving thinking skills assessment form, an innovative creative thinking skills assessment form, a learning achievement test, and a reflective thinking questionnaire. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test, and one-way repeated measures analysis of variance. The research findings revealed that the learning management approach using problem-based learning in conjunction with the STEAM4INNOVATOR curriculum for developing problem-solving thinking skills and innovative creative thinking skills was of very good quality, with an overall mean score of 3.71 ± 0.26. Students’ problem-solving thinking skills and innovative creative thinking skills continuously improved. Students were satisfied and demonstrated positive learning experiences, particularly in analytical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, and connecting knowledge to real-life situations. In addition, students’ post-learning achievement scores were significantly higher than their pre-learning achievement scores in both learning units. In the learning unit on solid waste, the mean score increased from 6.05 ± 2.40 to 7.08 ± 2.54, while in the learning unit on pollution, the mean score increased from 4.61 ± 2.39 to 7.69 ± 1.86. These findings indicate that problem-based learning in conjunction with the STEAM4INNOVATOR curriculum can effectively promote students’ learning competencies and innovative creativity.
