Abstract

This research study about the performances at cabaret theater in Pattaya, Banglamung, Chonburi province. The objectives of this research are to study about history of Cabaret theater in Pattaya and the uniqueness of the performances of Cabaret theater in Pattaya. This is a qualitative research. Composed of document researches, interviews and observations. The study focused on 3 cabaret theaters in Pattaya 1) Tiffany Show Pattaya Co., Ltd.
2) Alcazar Co., Ltd. 3) Colosseum Pattaya Co., Ltd.
The research found that the cabaret theater in Pattaya originated from the show at the night time, specifically for gay bars in 1970s. The show characterized by use all male actors get dress up as women and imitate the singing (Lips Sync) of the famous female singer. Actors who performed the show were called as Drag Queen. Afterward, Pattaya City, where the tourism industry was in the period of prosperous. The show has developed into a show in the theater and start using transgender women as actors. They also prioritized to be the main actors and lead the show called “Nang Show” (transgender actress’s role in cabaret theatre). This is very important to the tourism business. The definition of public relations promotion is “Beautiful Man Show”. The major part of the performance are lips syncing and the dancing with gestures that along with melody and rhythm of the music (mainly from foreign music such as English, Chinese, Russian, Korean, Indian). To make the audience believe that the performer is a woman singing the song. They also fascinate the audience with costume, scene and lighting in the performance too.
To maintaining the quality and standards of performances in the cabaret theater. The researcher found that the theatre should cultivate the love in profession as being an actress. Because “Nang Show” (transgender actress’s role in cabaret show) are the most important of the show. If they completed with beauty, good show skills and full of love in their acting career or profession. The cabaret theatre industry will sustainability maintain the good quality and also continuing in development of performer’s potential.
