Twelve-Tone Chromatic Approach in “Ether-Cosmos” IV and V

Abstract

Ether-Cosmos is a collection of twenty short compositions for piano. Ether-Cosmos no. 4 employs panpentatonic and pandiatonic musical techniques in which the scales are used without emphasizing a single note as the tonic or tone center. Ether-Cosmos no. 5, however, uses bitonality or polytonality compositional technique where two tone centers occur simultaneously. The compositional techniques used in both pieces fall into post-tonal or neo-tonal musical language.
