Brass band in Muang district, Phitsanulok

Abstract

This research study about brass bands in Muang district, Phitsanulok. The objectives are 1) to study the inheritance and the existence of the brass band in Muang district, Phitsanulok 2) to study the roles and functions of brass bands in Muang district, Phitsanulok. The results show that the Inheritance of the brass bands had two parts. 1) Inheritance of the brass band knowledge and skill have taught inside and outside the band leader’s family. 2) Inheritance of the brass band elements have passed on from generation to generation, including musical instruments, ensembles, songs, and Wai Kru ceremonies. The existence of the brass band in Muang district, Phitsanulok was related to two factors that are membership amount and remuneration. Roles and functions of brass bands in Muang district, Phitsanulok were divided into two types. 1) auspicious ceremonies such as ordination ceremony, wedding ceremony, redeeming a vow ceremony, candle procession, and Kathin ceremony. Non-auspicious ceremony included funeral ceremony.
