THE CREATION OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL DANCE BASED ON PRASART KAONOI SICHOMPOO HISTORIC SITE

Abstract

This research aimed to create a traditional Thai dance based on Prasart Kaonoi Sichompoo Historical Site of Sakaew Province. Qualitative research was applied by collecting data from Thai history and dramatic art documents; field study; interviewing Thai dramatic art experts, archaeologists, and local specialists. Data analysis was brought to find methods in creating the dance. The research results revealed that Prasart Kaonoi Sichompoo was established around the 14^th century B.E., referred to a stone inscription on archaic items such as Sombopireku artistic style of a lintel; Prei Kmeng art; human sculpture; Koh Ker baked-clay dolls; Trimurti Shivalinga base; bronze vessels etc. The researcher has set an imagination that a human appearing above a Makara on the lintel of the Prasart. The human performed a dance, according to the carving; dancing line; structure of the Prasart; and antiques around the site. Hindu faith and belief were considered to choreography and row design by blending the concept of archaeological dance of the Fine Art Department. Costume design was similar to the choreography. Dance creation process by interpreting and copying from bas-relief; human sculpture; decorations on the lintel; and antiques were from analysis; interpretation; and imagination, as well as symbolic dance process through Thai dramatic art choreography and the uniqueness of Prasart Kaonoi Sichompoo performance.
