MUSIC COMPOSITION “WIPAWEE” FOR SMALL JAZZ ENSEMBLE

Abstract

     The purpose of the music composition “Wipawee” for small jazz ensemble is to create a new alternative to present a concept of composition and improvisation. The composition was inspired by an attractive girl named Wipawee, a simple-looking girl who is happy for doing what she loves. She is thoughtful and never fails to amaze people around her. Even in any bad situations, she always manages to smile and think that it is just part of life. Because of her true nature, a composer was inspired for this composition, employing a wide number of techniques, such as modal jazz harmony, a concept of tritone substitution, a concept of writing the main melody using motive development and repetition, sequence, modulation, and transposition technique. Owing to a hard work and dedication, this piece of music composition was completed according to its purpose and successfully presented for public in an online context (September 16, 2020).
