This research employed a mixed methods approach, integrating qualitative research through academic document analysis and expert interviews to evaluate the learning outcomes of drum set performance skills across six courses, in alignment with the first research objective. The insights gained were then applied in a creative research phase, utilizing musical creativity processes to design and produce backing tracks for assessing performance outcomes in each course, addressing the second research objective. This approach led to the development of effective tools for evaluating drum set performance skills.
The results revealed that the six courses support the acquisition of a diverse range of drum set skills, progressing from basic to advanced levels through various techniques that enhance performance efficiency. The assessment was conducted using six genre-specific backing tracks, each composed with appropriate musical structures, melodies, and harmonic progressions aligned with the stylistic aesthetics of Pop, Rock, Blues & Country, R&B & Hip-Hop, Soul & Funky, and Jazz & Latin. These backing tracks facilitated effective performance and skill development, aligning with the current demands of the music industry.
