THE CREATIVE CONCEPTS OF THE SUNG DRAMA OF PHRA RUANG BASED ON HIS MAJESTY KING RAMA VI’S PLAY

Abstract

This research article is a part of the thesis project titled A Sung Drama of Phra Ruang Based on His Majesty King Rama VI’s Play. The objective is to study the sung drama Phra Ruang through qualitative research methodology. Data were collected from literary scripts, books, academic theories, and related articles, along with interviews with experts and direct observation the form of sung drama of King Rama VI. All data were collected for the creative performance of Phra Ruang sung drama.

It was found that the concepts of the creation applied the theory of cultural reproduction and the minimalism theory. The first theory explained the sung drama in the past in a new varied context. The second theory described the scene set that had less details but full of meanings. It reveals that Phra Ruang sung drama effectively integrates traditional Thai performance arts with modern presentation techniques. This drama aims to cultivate the significance of country, religion and monarchy to the audiences. This concept has been valuable from the past until today.
