Incomplete understanding of text organization is one factor resulting in communication breakdown. Move analysis is the study of the text organization of different genres or text types; for example, research articles, letters of negotiation and speeches. The findings of genre and move analysis include move structure, including moves and steps in organizing texts, which can serve as a guideline enabling speakers and writers to produce well-organized texts. This academic article has the objective of presenting, first, a concept summary of move analysis used to examine genres and, second, samples of move structure. The author hopes that this academic article will contribute to language learning and can help instruction by bringing English and foreign language teachers together with teachers of content courses to how move analysis plays an important role in a language material design, and a language practice. Teachers can make use of move analysis in language writing and speaking classes as a lesson facilitator, finally, enabling students to study different genres by themselves. This learning process is useful for self-access learning and can serve as a tool for sustainable language learning.
