Comparison of Efficiency between TNI English Ability Test and TOEIC Test
Main Article Content
Abstract
The purposes of this research were 1) to study TNI English ability test taking competence of TNI students 2) to study TOEIC test taking competence of TNI students 3) to study efficiency of TNI English ability test and TOEIC test from TNI students’ test taking competence 4) to compare competence in test taking from both tests of TNI students and 5) to compare correlation between TNI English ability test and TOEIC test.
The subjects were 20 TNI undergraduate students who enrolled in ENL-415 (Reading and Writing Skills in English1) course derived from stratified random sampling technique, during their first semester of 2013 academic year. The research instruments consisted of TNI ability test which was divided into 2 skills: 100 items for listening skill; 100 items for reading skill and TOEIC test. The data were statistically analyzed by mean scores, standard deviation, t-test and Pearson Correlation.
The results of the study were as follows:
- The undergraduate students’ competence in TNI English ability test taking was at moderate level.
- The undergraduate students’ competence in TOEIC test taking was at moderate level.
- Efficiency in the undergraduate students’ test taking from TNI English ability test was (=430.35) and from TOEIC test was (=421.25). For difference of scores was (=9.1). It was demonstrated that test scores from both tests were very closely related and efficiency of TNI English ability test had relation with TOEIC test.
- The TNI students’ competence in test taking from both tests had statistically significant difference at 0.01 level.
- Both tests’ correlation was at very high level (0.992) and there was statistically significant correlation at 0.01 level.
