The Development of Capital Concept : Context of Isan Society

Abstract

Northeast of Thailand, or another familiar name, is "Isan" is filled with outstanding cultural wisdom, especially the culture of brotherhood, neighbor and family. The context makes the people in the Isan region support each other and they have a consciousness in the Isan person. But when times has changed, an urbanization has been an important role in their life, therefore, many Isan people have to modify their lifestyle to be able to survive in the midst of a changing society. As a result, this article has tried to point out the changing of Isan society, with in the concept of Pierre Bourdieu (1984) in 4 capital, which include economic capital, social capital, cultural capital and symbolic capital.
