THE EFFECTS OF CASE STUDY WITH SIX THINKING HATS TECHNIQUE ON CRITICAL THINKING ABILITY AND LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT IN SOCIAL STUDIES SUBJECT OF PRATHOMSUKSA 6 STUDENTS

Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) to compare analytical thinking ability of Prathomsuksa 6 students before and after learning through the case-based learning supplemented with the six thinking hats technique, and 2) to study and compare the students’ learning achievement on Social Studies subject of Prathomsuksa 6 students before and after learning through the case-based learning supplemented with the six thinking hats technique. The samples of this research were 20 Prathomsuksa 6 students who studied in the first semester during the 2018 academic year at Anubannongsaeng School, Nongsaeng District, Udon Thani Province. They were selected by cluster random sampling. The instruments of this research consisted of the case-based learning supplemented with the six thinking hats technique lesson plans, a critical thinking ability test, and a Social student achievement test. The data were analyzed by using mean, percentage, standard deviation, and t-test for dependent samples.


The findings of this research were:


1.The students’ analytical thinking ability mean score before and after learning through the case-based learning supplemented with the six thinking hats techniques were 15.70 or 52.33% and 25.10 or 83.67 % respectively. The posttest mean scores was significantly higher than the pretest.


2.The students’ achievement mean score in Social studies subject before and after learning through the case-based learning supplemented with the six thinking hats technique were 17.40 or 43.50% and 33.95 or 84.88% respectively which was not less than the set criterion of 75 percent. The posttest mean scores was significantly higher than the pretest.
