THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH READING COMPREHENSION ABILITY USING PLAN STRATEGY OF MATHAYOMSUKSA 1 STUDENTS

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to study and compare the English reading comprehension ability before and after using PLAN strategy of Matthayomsuksa 1 students and to study the students’ attitude towards teaching English reading comprehension ability before and after using PLAN strategy.
The samples consisted of 45 students of Matthayomsuksa 1 students studying English in the second semester of the academic year 2015 at Chumpholphonphisai School, Phonphisai, Nongkhai, under Nongkhai Secondary Education Service Area Office 21 selected by cluster random sampling. The design of this research was a one group pretest–posttest design.
The research instruments were 10 lesson plans, an English reading comprehension ability test and a students’ attitude questionnaire. The experiment lasted 10 weeks, 3 hours a week, or 30 hours in total. The mean, percentage, standard deviation and t-test for Dependent samples were employed to analyze data. The findings of this research were as follows: The students’ pretest score on English reading comprehension ability was 22.04 or 55.11 percent and the posttest mean was 31.47 or 78.70 percent respectively. The students’ English reading comprehension ability using PLAN strategy was significantly different. The mean score on the posttest was higher than that of the pretest andthe students’ attitude towards teaching English reading comprehension ability using PLAN strategy was at a good level.
