Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) to study the level of factors that affected teaching efficiency of mathematics teachers; 2) to study factors related to teaching efficiency of mathematics teachers; and 3) to study factors affecting and construct the predictive equation of mathematics teachers. The samples consisted of 210 mathematics teachers selected through the stratified random sampling method. The research instruments were 4 different sets of questionnaire. The statistical methods employed were the descriptive statistics, the Pearson product- moment correlation coefficient, and the multiple regression analysis.

The results were as follows;

  1. Overall, the level of teaching efficiency of mathematics teachers was high. The determination of contents was highest, followed by changing the attitude of students and arrangement of teaching activities, and the lowest was measurement and evaluation.

  2. The predictor variables were positively correlated with the teaching efficiency of mathematics teachers; the relation between teacher and students (X1) was at a moderate level with the significant positive relationship (r = 0.464), using instructional media (X2) r = 0.375, teaching motivation (X3) r = 0.351, and teacher personality (X6) r = 0.287 respectively. The factor with the least correlation coefficients was teacher’s workload (X7) being at a moderate level with the significantly positive relationship (r = 0.159).

  3. The variables which could predict teaching efficiency of mathematics teachers at the .01 level of significance included: the relation between teacher and students and using instructional media. The variables which could predict teaching efficiency of mathematics teachers at the .05 level of significance included: teaching motivation, classroom environment arrangement, and teacher personality. The correlation coefficient of prediction as 34 percent (R2=0.34). The predictive equations for teaching efficiency of mathematics teachers were presented in the regression equation and standard forms as follows:

Regression equation of raw score.
