The Local Wisdom and Public Participation for Water Resource Management in Chaiyaphum Province

Abstract

          The objectives of study local wisdom and public participation for water resource management in Chaiyaphum Province were to collected local wisdom for Lahan lake resource management and to study public participation for Lahan lake resource management Chaturat district, Chiyaphum Province. Data were collected by survey, documentary data and field study by interview that two approaches study were 1) collecting local wisdom for Lahan lake resource management, Chiyaphum Province and 2) public participation for Lahan lake resource management. A Sample was selected from 120 cases for the people were in around Lahan lake such as sub-district, Nongbuayai sub-district, Nongbuaban sub-district and Lumlumchee sub-district (each sub-district 30 cases) and a sample of 30 cases, using purposive sampling and collected by In-depth interview for subjects who depend on Lahan lake

          The study found that whole community around Lahan lake have changed some lifestyle, although communities have preserved local wisdom since the past especially fishery which Lahan lake is the large marsh and remain fertility, so community around the lake maintain fishery for sufficiency economy from the past to market economy in other words both sale a fish and fishing gear for persons were not inventing skill. So resulted in income either fishery or invention of fishing gear that was local wisdom from the past at the present and preserved local wisdom for invention of fishing gear such as fish trap (Sai), fish trap (Soom), fish trap (Elong), shrimp trap (Elong). The result of public participation for water resource management in Lahan lake, Chaiyaphum Province found that the overall of public participation for water resource management was high level (x̅=3.68). When considered in each aspects found that public participation for water resource management (preserve) was high level (x̅ = 3.59), public participation for water resource management (development) was moderate level (x̅ = 3.36), public participation for water resource management (utilization) was high level (x̅ = 3.98). People who have lived around Lahan lake suggested that government should be support for youth learning and promote in public relations for construct well-known Lahan lake and develop for tourist attraction.
