Factors Contributing to Delayed and Specified Graduation of Graduate Students of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mahasarakham University

This study aimed at 1) investigating opinions regarding factors contributing to delayed and specified graduation of the graduate students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mahasarakham University, and 2) comparing their opinions regarding factors contributing to delayed and specified graduation of the graduate students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences based on different study plans of different curriculums. Selected through purposing sampling, the participants included 79 graduate students who completed their postgraduate study between the academic years 2017 and 2019. The research instruments consisted of a questionnaire pertaining to the factors contributing to the delayed and specified graduation of the graduate students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Mahasarakham University. Statistics for data analysis included percentage, standard deviation, F-test and Multiple Comparison Test based on Scheffe.
The research result finds that:
The graduate students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences had the overall opinions concerning delayed and specified graduation with four aspects at high level ranging from the highest mean score to the least mean score. The mean score for the aspect of personal characteristics of the graduate students is (= 4.22), procedures/regulations/rules/guideline (= 4.20), knowledge about research (= 4.01), services for sources for academic search (=3.93) respectively. They had opinions about factors contributing to delayed and specified graduation of two aspects at highest level including research advisor (=4.70) and administration and curriculum management (=4.55). They had opinions about factors contributing to delayed and specified graduation at moderate level for one aspect concerning personal problem (= 3.21).
In conclusion, the most important factors contributing to delayed and specified graduation based on the requirements of the postgraduate studies are research advisor and administration and curriculum management. This study provides a guideline for administrative committee of all curriculums to use for the improvement of effective administration and learning and teaching management of graduate students to enhances and supports the graduate students.
