The Value of the Doctrine that Appears in the Boon Khao Pradab Din Tradition

Abstract

          Boon Khao Phradap Din is one of the Hietsipsong Kongsippi and an important tradition of Isan people tracing back to the time of the Buddha told in Dhammapada tale mentioning the King Bimpisara’s departed relatives that were born as hungry ghosts for long period between the two Buddha’s times. The king made merits and dedicate his meritorious deed to his relatives, whose sufferings diminished because of merits dedicated. This practice is interleaved with gratefulness and later became Boon Khao Phradap Din accepted and practice in the community as a spiritual refuge and communal identity till present.
          The doctrines that appear in the tradition of merit khao Pradabdin 1) Tana 2) Sila 3) Pavana 4) Kataññukatavedi 5) Pubbapetabali and 6) Unanimity.
          The values that appear in the Boon Khao Pradub Din tradition are as follows: 1) Social values creating a peaceful society. 2) spiritual value Makes people happy. 3) The value of unity of the community. The community has unity and harmony. 4) Religious and cultural values. Make the younger generations love their good cultural traditions that their ancestors have inherited and have the mind to preserve and pass on from generation to generation.
