Development of Academic Achievement and Creative Writing Skills among Grade 5 Students with Skill Training Kits in conjunction with Learning Management Based on the 4 MAT Concept

Abstract

             This main objective of this research is to 1) develop a skill training kit for a creative writing lesson for Grade 5 students according to the specified standard criteria, 2) compare the academic achievement of students before and after the lesson, 3) compare the creative writing skills of students before and after the lesson, and 4) study students’ satisfaction with the lesson, where skill training kits were used in conjunction with the learning management based on the 4 MAT concept. This research used a single-group quasi-experimental research design with pre-tests and post-tests. The sample group consisted of 20 fifth grade primary school students, who were randomly selected by using the school network unit as the sampling unit. The instruments used for data collection were 1) learning management plan, 2) skill training kit with learning management based on the 4 MAT concept, 3) academic achievement test, and 4) creative writing skill test, and 5) student satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analyzed using basic statistics, including percentage and mean.
             The results of the research found that:
             1) The skill training kit with learning management based on the 4 MAT concept had an efficiency value of 80.27/79.11, which was in line with the specified standard criteria. 2) The value of students’ academic achievement after the lesson was significantly higher than one before the lesson, which was at the .01 level. 3) The creative writing skill scores of students after the lesson were significantly higher than those before the lesson, which was at the .01 level. and 4) The satisfaction with learning management for the skill training kit with learning management based on the 4 MAT concept was at the highest level, with an average of 4.50.
