APPLICATION OF BUDDHIST PRINCIPLES TO PROMOTE THE LEADERSHIP OF LOCAL POLITICIANS IN NAKHON RATCHASIMA PROVINCE

This mixed-methods research aims to: 1. examine local political leadership in Nakhon Ratchasima Province; 2. identify factors influencing this leadership; and 3. propose the application of Buddhist Dhamma principles to enhance local political leadership within the province. Quantitative data were gathered using a questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.884, administered to a sample size of 400 respondents. Statistical analyses included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis. To enrich the study, qualitative insights were derived from focus group discussions with 9 key informants and in-depth interviews with 18 key informants.
Findings were as follows. 1. Local political leadership in Nakhon Ratchasima Province is characterized by five core dimensions: 1. Justice and Transparency: focusing on fairness and transparency; 2. Collaborative Decision-Making: emphasizing public and follower participation; 3) Synergistic Cooperation: integrating efforts across various agencies; 4. Inclusivity of Feedback: actively listening to stakeholders' perspectives through diverse channels; and 5) Digital Adaptability: openness to adapting to online systems. 2. Regarding the factors influencing local political leadership, political socialization and ethical principles significantly affect leadership outcomes at the statistical significance levels of 0.01 and 0.05, demonstrating a predictive power of 31.7% and 22.4%, respectively. 3. This study presents the application of Buddhist principles to promote leadership qualities among local politicians. The findings indicate: 1. Chakkhuma (visionary, focusing on sustainable development), 2. Vithuro (skilled in work, managing various tasks), and 3. Nissayasampanno (good interpersonal skills, approachable and friendly).
