A Study of Buddhist Leadership of Phrakrupiyadhammaporn (Piam Punnako)

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the Buddhist leadership in the Buddhist scriptures, 2) to study the biography and leadership of Phrakhru Piyadhammaporn (Piam Punnako), and 3) to study the Buddhist leadership of Phrakhrupiyadhammaporn (Piam Punnako). This research collected data from academic documents and in-depth interviews. The key informants were monks, academics, local leaders, wise persons, and the general. The data analysis was presented with the descriptive analysis style.

The results have found that: -

1) The Buddhist leadership in the Buddhist scriptures is the leadership of knowledgeable people leading a group of people towards the achievement of their goals. They can adopt the doctrine of the Tripitaka, which has three priorities: the Vinaya Pitaka, the Sutta Pitaka, and the Abhidhamma Pitaka, including the principles in Buddhism for administration, being good leaders and leading the people to have faith in Buddhism.

2) The biography and leadership of PhrakhruPiyadhammaporn (Piam Punnako) found that he is 81 years old and 61 Vassa (rainy season). He graduated from Nak Dhamma Ek (the Third level in Dhamma studies). At present, he lives and is the abbot at Wat Bhorinvivek, Khwaosinrin sub-district, Khwaosinrin district, Surin Province. Also, he is the ecclesiastical Khwaosinin district officer. He is a leader in 6 aspects: governance, religious studies, educational supporter, religion, public assistance, and general construction supporter. He is a good governor with a high vision of supporting all Buddhism jobs and often offers scholarships for students.

3) The Buddhist leadership with community development of Phrakhrupiya dhammaporn (Piam Punnako) found that he has adopted 4 Sangahavatthu (bases of sympathy), 2) 4 Brahmavihara (holy abiding), 3) 7 Sappurisa-dhamma (qualities of a good man), 4) 4 Gharavasa-dhamma (virtues on a wonderful household life), 5) 4 Agati (prejudice), 6) 10 Kusala-kammapatha (wholesome course of action), 7) Akusala-kammapatha (Unwholesome course of action), 8) 5 Panca-sila (five precepts) and 9) Ethics and morality to be integrated into life living and physical and mental development.
