The Relationship of the Perceptions of the Rector’s Transformational Leadership Behaviors, Work Motivation and Organizational Commitment of Lecturers at Four Buddhist Universities in Myanmar

บทคัดย่อ

        The purpose of this quantitative study was to determine whether there was a significant relationship between the perceptions of the rector’s transformational leadership behaviors and work motivation with the organizational commitment held by lecturers working at four Buddhist universities in Yangon, Myanmar, during the academic year 2023-2024. A voluntary sample of 115 lecturers from the four target universities participated in the study. For the data collection, Bass and Avolio’s (1995) Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire, Gagné et al.’s (2015) Multidimensional Work Motivation Scale, and Meyer and Allen’s (1997) Organizational Commitment Questionnaire, were used. The collected data was analyzed by performing descriptive statistics (i.e., means and standard deviations) and correlational analysis. From the data analysis, it was found that:

  1. the rectors’ transformational leadership behaviors were perceived as high;
  2. the overall level of lecturers’ work motivation was found to be moderate;
  3. the participants’ overall level of organizational commitment was moderate; and
  4. there was a significant (α = .05) and weak multiple correlation between the combination of participants’ perceptions of their rectors’ transformational leadership behaviors and work motivation (the independent variables) with their organizational commitment (the dependent variable), with this combination of independent variables accounting for 15% of the variance of the participants’ organizational commitment.

Based on these findings, practical suggestions for future research, and for improving lecturers' level of the study variables, are provided.
