Abstract

This research aims to 1) to study the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak on farmer households and 2) to study the coping strategies of farmer households on the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak. The population was Ban Non Sila Farmers' Household, Waeng Noi Sub-district, Waeng Noi District, Khon Kaen Province. The sample size was 82 households. Data were collected in August 2020 by using structured interviews. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean and standard deviation. The results showed that the economic activities of the farmers household were diverse. Most of the income comes from non-agricultural sector, accounting for 67.9 percent of the total household income. Agricultural production was not much affected by the COVID-19 outbreak because it was out of the growing season. Only 9.7 percent of cantaloupe and melon farmers were affected because it is in the harvesting and distributing periods. Non-agricultural income decreased due to factory closures. Most farmers' countermeasures against the COVID-19 pandemic by taking saving money (62.2 percent), growing vegetables for household consumption (65.9 percent), applying social distancing measures when engaging in community activities (100 percent), and wearing. a mask every time when leaving home and entering the community (100 percent).
