A Review of Thai Research on Media and Disability from 2015 to 2024

Abstract
The qualitative research study, “A Review of Thai Research on Media and Disability from 2015 to 2024,” examines research on this topic from two perspectives: 1) Patterns and Trends in Media and Disability Research (2015–2024), and 2) The State of Knowledge on Media and Disability Issues (2015–2024). This study employs a document analysis approach to review 44 research articles published in the Thai Journal Citation Index (TCI). Findings indicate that research is evenly distributed across humanities, social sciences, and communication journals. The most frequently studied topics are media accessibility services and visual impairment. Most studies employ qualitative methods, utilizing content and document analysis. Theoretical frameworks are categorized into four groups: 1) Communication theories, with social construction of meaning being the most prominent; 2) Social sciences and humanities perspectives, including political science, law, sociology, and anthropology; 3) Medical Science Concepts; and 4) Disability-related concepts, covering disability definitions, media representation, and disability law and policy. Regarding the definition of disability, it was found that self-definitions by persons with disabilities are fluid, emphasizing diversity and normalcy. In contrast, definitions based on social structures are most framed by legal standards, which tend to be fixed and serve as a basis for determining access to rights.
