Figures of Speech for Dhamma Communication of Suanmokkhaphalaram in Suratthani Province

The objective of this research is to understand figures of speech for dharma communication of Suanmokkhaphalaram, Suratthani Province on the effort to comprehend the core of one’s own religion, avoiding the materialism power, understanding different religions and understanding the keys to the success of the preacher priest in dharma communication of Suanmokkhaphalaram. The concepts and theories applied as the guideline of the research are Dharma communication concept, Figures of speech concept, Berlo’s model of communication, Learning theory, Semiotics approach and Painting langage. This qualitative research is conducted by analyzing paintings divided into 3 commitments of Buddhadãsa Bikkhu on the effort to comprehend the core of one’s own religion, avoiding the materialism power, understanding different religions, analyzing 19 paintings and interviewing the preacher priest behind the success of dharma communication of Suanmokkhaphalaram. The research produces the following results:
(1) The figures of speech for dharma communication through paintings consist of the follow- ing figurative and linguistic methods a) parables b) metaphors c) synecdoche d) hyperboles e) personification f) paradox g) trivia quizzes h) allusion i) allegory and j) implications.
(2) There are 3 keys to the success of the preacher priest in dharma communication as the following 2.1 The characteristics of the preacher priest consisting of a) being confident in his own unique style b) being observant c) being able to quickly react to immediate events d) good plan- ning e) creativity f) good personality and friendliness g) being a good friend h) being sincere in preaching 2.2 The contents are determined by a) student’s issue b) discovery study c) student’s expectation and d) natural study 2.3 The preaching techniques consist of a) the ability to convey messages b) training techniques c) the focus on benefits of the audience and participants and d) encouragement on constructive learning.
