A STUDY OF BEHAVIOR AND SELF-DISCLOSURE OF LESBIANS FOR SCREENWRITING

Abstract

        The main purpose of this research is to study behavior and self-disclosure of lesbians which lead to the creation screenwriting through qualitative research from focus group interview with lesbians that have similar ages and occupations. To support analysis result, the concept and theories about sexual orientation such as homosexual behavior concept, lesbian concept, social norm and self-disclosure are included. Along with composition of television plays and character creation theories to study the creation of this screenwriting.

        Behavior and personality analysis of lesbians can be divided to these issues which are
1) grooming and hairstyle 2) tone of voice and speech style and 3) gesture and expression.
The results show that they are not unusual from general women and mostly look familiar to women that can’t tell if they like girls.

        When it comes to self-disclosure of lesbians can be divided according to the progress of homosexuality which are 1) pre-self-disclosure procedure found that lesbians are aware of their gender identity and admit that they like women from the start and not interested in men as much as women. They keep their gender identity as lesbian. 2) self-disclosure procedure found that lesbians tend to disclose themselves more to same-age friends than their family due to age differences and open-mindedness to new information. 3) post-self-disclosure procedure found that lesbians seek their partner through noticing behaviors until they are certain that they like women as same as them before developing relationship like general lovers. They will plan their future and gather with other lesbians or homosexual community in order to feel accepted. Media also plays a big role towards social attitude and as well can help society to understand the nature of lesbians.
