Abstract

        The present study employed a qualitative research approach, specifically using the interpretive research method. Its primary objective was to analyze the auteurship of M.L. Bhandevanop Devakul which presented in the films. The study was conducted on a total of six films, exploring three key dimensions: film genres, techniques employed in the films, and the meanings and symbols embedded within them. Relevant documents, interview scripts, and the auteur's autobiography were collected as pieces of evidence to bolster the analysis.

 

        The results of the research showed that films predominantly belonged to the genres of drama, eroticism, and philosophy. The majority of these films were adaptations of both Thai and foreign literary works through careful analysis and re-interpretation, the filmmaker managed to capture the essence of the original writings. In artistic storytelling, the films contained stunning visual aesthetics. The films also exhibited a distinct cinematic style, featuring exceptional color grading that transition from vibrant hues to a nuanced black and white, subtly reflecting the protagonist's evolving emotional states. Throughout the movie, meaningful symbols and profound significance are strategically embedded within scenes and characters,

 

        Several significant factors influenced the creation of M.L. Bhandevanop Devakul's films, including: 1) religion; M.L. Bhandevanop Devakul recognized the inseparable relationship between the study and practice of Buddhist doctrines. This realization inspired the development of new curriculum and innovative teaching styles that incorporated Buddhist principles, 2) arts: From a young age, M.L. Bhandevanop Devakul displayed a deep interest in the arts. His exceptional drawing skills enabled him to produce intricately detailed works, showcasing his artistic talent, and 3) a prominent thematic concept in his films was "Humanity." This distinctive element set M.L. Bhandevanop Devakul's works apart from others.
