Investigative News Reporting in Digital Era

This article is a study of Investigative news reporting in digital era. It applies a document research to explore relevant academic and news writing manuals in order that the synthesized and analyzed information could answer the following objectives: 1) how today journalists and media organizations face opportunity and challenge in investigative news reporting differently from the previous contexts, and 2) what are the main characteristics of investigative news reporting in digital era. The article finds that the common characteristics of the Investigative news reporting share in both analog era and digital era are, the principle of professional journalism, and the roles of being “watchdog” to publicly serve the democratic society. As well as the three main practices in news reporting i.e., finding a story; making a plan; and reporting a story.. However, journalists and media organizations in digital era could intensively use the new technology, information systems, and advancement of computer software programs, i.e., data Journalism to help improve their coverage more effectively and professionally
