The Norm of Digital Citizenship and Youths Under the Digital Divide

This academic article aims to reveal the power of digital citizenship that influences youth living in digital inequality household through a sociological lens. During the COVID-19 crisis, the youth who utilizes an online learning must adapt themselves to the rise of digital capital in order to survive and have a position in the education system. The reproduction of structural socioeconomic inequalities in Thailand may be one of the factors sustaining the digital citizenship norm. This digital stratification includes labeling those who lack digital capital as weak and obstructing them educational and employment opportunities in their future. Furthermore, the authors recommend further research on the topic of digital citizenship and youths affected by the digital divide to effectively understand, transform, and develop the youths in Thailand's democratic regime to become good citizens of the digital society.
