Political Ideologies: Taylor’s Version
Keywords:
Taylor Swiftฃ, Political Ideology, Feminism, Liberalism, Democracy, American PoliticsAbstract
This article discusses Taylor Swift's political ideology as a political agent, expressed through her song lyrics between 2006 and 2024, music videos, the semi-documentary film "Miss Americana" (2020) on Netflix, and her political movement on social media. The author analyzes the texts using the concept of persuasive communication within the context of modern society, which allows artists to communicate political issues.
Her work is inseparable from the political context of the United States, reflecting important political ideologies. These include feminist ideology in the songs "Look What You Made Me Do" (2017) and "The Man" (2019), liberal ideology in "You Need to Calm Down" (2019), and democratic ideology in her Instagram post in 2018 and the song "Only the Young" (2020). In the final section, the article examines the significant impact of this communication on the American public and the U.S. elections from 2018-2024.
