An Analytical Study of the Method in the Cultivation of Virtue and Ethics for Children in Matthew Lipman’s Concept in Theravada Buddhist

Abstract

This article aims to analyze and analyze the methods of cultivating morals and ethics for children according to Matthew's theory. Lipman through the perspective of Theravada Buddhist philosophy the study was based on the analysis of Matthew's concepts and methods of cultivating morals and ethics. Lipman and Theravada Buddhist Philosophy


The results showed that Matthew Lipman's Cultivation of Moral Ethics is a way of acquiring knowledge in a collective way of searching and sharing. That is to say, the method of cultivating morality and ethics from the process of three concepts: 1. Critical thinking. 2. Careful thinking and 3. Creative thinking As for Theravada Buddhist philosophy, there are methods for instilling morals and ethics by giving reasoning to create understanding for the learners, such as the Yonisomanasikara Principle. using the principles of critical thinking, caring thinking and creativity and this approach is similar to that of Lipman's course as a tool for cultivating morals and ethics. If so, it shows that Lipman's approach to cultivating morals and Theravada Buddhist philosophy is consistent.


This article argues in favor of Lipman's method. Although in Theravada Buddhist philosophy, there are still different and more diverse approaches than Lipman's approach, such as observing the Five Precepts, practicing meditation and developing wisdom. but on the basis of method and teaching that can be developed together
