The Relationship between Attitudes and Behavior toward the Safety Measures for Water Tourism of Ship’s Staff: Case Study of Maritime Route Pattaya-Koh Lan

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the attitude and behavioral level towards water safety measures; 2) to compare the differences between population characteristics and attitudes and behaviors towards water safety measures; and 3) to study the relationship between attitudes and behaviors towards water safety measures. The sample consisted of a total population of 150 crews on the Pattaya-Koh Larn route using questionnaires to collect data. The statistics used in the research were percentage, mean, standard deviation, T-test, F-test, ANOVA, LSD Test and Pearson correlation coefficient analysis. The results of the research revealed 1) the level of attitude and behavior level towards safety measures in water travel, overall, were at the highest level; 2) comparison of differences between population characteristics and attitudes and behaviors found that sex and age were different. This affected the attitude of safety in using harbors. Different work experience affected behavior in compliance with qualifications of ship operators and entrepreneurs; and 3) an analysis of the relationship between attitude and behavior found that safety attitudes of passenger ships had no behavioral relationship to safety measures in water tourism.
