Development of Instructional Package in Science on the Circulation of Water in the Ocean using the 4MAT Learning Method for Mathayomsuksa 5 Students

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to develop an instructional package in science on the circulation of water in the ocean to be as effective as the 80/80 criterion; 2) to find the valued effectiveness index of the instructional package in science on the circulation of water in the oceans; 3) to compare the achievement of science learning; and 4) to compare the achievement in science of Mathayomsuksa 5 students taught by the 4MAT learning activities and by the conventional approach. This was a quasi-experimental research. The research sample consisted of 102 Mathayomsuksa 5 students of Princess Sirindhorn's College studying in the first semester of academic year 2020. The research tools included an instructional package in science on the circulation of water in the ocean by using the 4MAT learning activities, the 4MAT learning management plan, the achievement test, student satisfaction assessment form. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test. The results of the research showed that 1) an instructional package in science had the efficiency at  91.08 /87.18; 2) the effectiveness index of an instructional package in science was 0.7666 or 76.66 percent; 3) the learning achievement of Mathayomsuksa 5 students on ocean water circulation by using the 4MAT learning method was statistically significantly higher than the students who studied by the conventional approach at the .01 level; and 4) on the side of the satisfaction of Mathayomsuksa 5 students studying the topic of the circulation of water in the ocean using the 4MAT learning science teaching package, they were more satisfied overall and in all aspects than students who studied by the conventional approach at statistically significant level.01.
