Development format Participation of citizens in Conservation and management of community forests

Abstract

The objectives of this research are 1. To study the problems and block of people participation in the community forest conservation and management in the Wang Mo village, Bo subdistrict, Muang district, Nan province. 2. To study the process of motivating people to participate in the community forest conservation and management in the Wang Mo village, Bo subdistrict, Muang district, Nan province. 3. To develop the model of people participation in the community forest conservation and management in the Wang Mo village, Bo subdistrict, Muang district, Nan province. The methodology in this research was mixed method research which consisted of the qualitative research, the quantitative research, and the participatory action research. This research focused on the participatory action research. The descriptive analysis was done. The questionnaires were used to collect data from sample group. The sample size was 205. The statistic parameters used in the analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. It was found that:       1) The problems and block of people participation in the community forest conservation and management in the Wang Mo community: the overall quantitative data collected from questionnaires, the data represented that the biggest problem was the participation to work and the smallest problem was the participation to get benefits. 2) The process of motivating people to participate in the community forest conservation and management: The researchers had done the focus group discussion with the village committee and the villagers step by step 1. Design the process of participation in the community forest conservation and management. 2. Hold the focus group discussion with the village committee, the Christian leader, the Buddhist leader, and the resident. 3.The researchers provided the knowledge about the community forest conservation and management. And 4. The participants expressed opinion.  3) The development of community forest conservation model in the Ban Wang Mo community was well-cooperated from the community leader, the religion leaders, and the people living in the community. The focus group discussion was done to draft the ethical standard about the community forest conservation and management. The draft was the model developed by people in the community. The content of the draft was to support the participation in the community forest conservation and management, the decision, action, benefits, and evaluation together. And 4) The evaluation of (draft of) ethical standard for community forest conservation and management was done from data collected from questionnaires. The research result represented that the level of people opinion was high. The village committee agreed to enforce such ethical standard.
