Leadership for innovative work behavior for nurse generation Y

Abstract
Leadership is vital to all aspects of management especially the creation of behavior at work. At present, it has been found that the number of Gen Y nurses has been continuously growing while nursing services need to be abruptly and timely provided in various complex situations. Nurses always need creative thinking according to various contexts. It is, therefore, essential that leaders of nurses have their roles in leading Gen Y nurses. For factors influencing creative behavior that will motivate and efficiently utilize the potentials of Gen Y nurses and maximize the benefits of the organization, leaders must open their minds to accept and adapt their attitudes towards them in various aspects such as beliefs, attitudes, attributes, needs and motivation that can be applied for promoting creative thinking for developing innovations of the organization. Leaders must have emotional stability in acknowledging suitable knowhow and task environment. Essential factors facilitating creative development of Gen Y nurses include creative behavior, expertise in nursing, creative skills and motivation. Building innovative behavior for Gen Y nurses must be implemented through participation, openness, freedom of thought, decision making, risk taking, not being discouraged with failure, having time to review, creating new knowhow, open for different ideas or outputs. This will also help Gen Y nurses improve their creative thinking and nursing quality.
