Factors Influencing Trust of Teachers among Students Nurse in Private University

Abstract

This research is a qualitative research aiming at studying the trustworthiness of teachers as expected by nursing students in a private university through in-depth interviews on current conditions and expectation towards the trustworthiness of teachers among 367 nursing students by sampling students in all classes divided into 4 groups and each group included 4-6 students with data saturation of 61 students as sampling groups. Data were collected through focus groups and in-depth interviews and analyzed by content analysis. The research found that the present trustworthiness of teachers was at high and highest levels in all 4 aspects of all classes. However, there are some issues that can be developed e.g. teaching and learning management, behavior and motivation, and expectation of nursing students towards trustworthiness of teachers in a private university in various aspects. From analyzing and categorizing the 5 themes and 18 elements, the trustworthiness can be divided as the followings: 1) In knowledge on content and teaching skills aspect such as knowledge on content and teaching process, task teaching skills, clinical supervision, and learning evaluation; 2) In personality aspect such as gentleness, generous speech, appropriate dressing, social manners, positive thinking and honesty and straightforwardness; 3) In relationship aspect such as attentive care, justice, impartiality, unselfishness, equality and respect; 4) In leadership aspect such as motivation and being a model of responsibility and empathy; and 5) In vision aspect such as modern knowledge and international adaptation.
