THE DEVELOPMENT OF BASIC MATHEMATICAL ABILITY OF EARLY CHILDHOOD THROUGH THE NORTHEAST COOKING ACTIVITIES

Abstract

 The objectives of this research included: 1) To study the result of the development of basic mathematical ability through the northeast cooking activities; and 2) To compare the basic mathematical ability of the early childhood level 3 before and after experiencing the northeast cooking activities. The sampling groups selected by the simple random sampling included 15 students aged between 5-6 years studying in the kindergarten class level 3 in the second semester of the academic year 2019 at Bansangtho School, Lao Suea Kok District, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The school was under the supervision of Ubon Ratchathani Primary Educational Service Area Office 1. The experiment was conducted in a period of 8 weeks, 3 days a week and 50 minutes per day. The research tools were 24 cooking activities plans and basic mathematical ability practical test. The statistics used for data analysis included mean, standard deviation and t-test (dependent-samples t-test analysis). The research findings were as the followings. 1) Both the overall and by aspect of basic mathematical ability of early childhood through experiencing the northeast cooking activities were at high level; 2) For the comparison of pre and post experiencing the northeast cooking activities, the basic mathematical ability of early childhood at the post experiencing was higher than the pre experiencing with statistical significance at the level of .01.
