GUIDELINES FOR 21st CENTURY SKILLS DEVELOPMENT OF TEACHERS UNDER KANCHANABURI PRIMARY EDUCATIONAL SERVICE AREA OFFICE 1

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the 21st century skills development of teachers under Kanchanaburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 1; and 2) to study the 21st century skills development guidelines of teachers under Kanchanaburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 1. This study was a mixed method by using a questionnaire and an interview form for the focus group as research tools. The samples consisted of 305 teachers under the Kanchanaburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 1. The 5 key informants included: school administrators, educational supervisors and teachers under Kanchanaburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 1. Data were analyzed by means (), standard deviation (S.D.) and content analysis from focus group. The results were as follows. The overall 21st century skills development needs of teachers under Kanchanaburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 were at the highest level. By considering the means, they could be chronologically arranged from the highest to the lowest as follows:  knowledge construction skills, followed by computer integration skills, connectivity skills, collaboration skills, communication skills, content management skills, attentive skills and creative skills. Guidelines for developing the 21st century skills for teachers under Kanchanaburi Primary Educational Service Area Office 1 consisted of: 1) Input; by providing the essential knowledge and skills including content management, computer integration, knowledge construction, connectivity, collaboration, communication, creativity and attention; 2) Process for enhancing skills including training, exchange and networking of knowledge and ICT self-development. These will help learning management be more effective. In addition, unrelated workload in teaching should be reduced. Morale support should be promoted among teachers. The problem of teacher shortage should be solved through various activities; 3) Output i.e. the 21st century skills of teachers.
