BUDDHIST MORALITY TEACHING MONKS IN SCHOOLS AND CITIZENSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

Buddhist morality teaching monks in schools have the important roles in teaching Buddhist principles integrated with sufficient economy philosophy to inculcate morality and encourage children and youth to understand the importance of Dhamma to be applied in their daily life. The extra - curriculum activities related to religious important days are arranged by introducing students, teachers, and students’ parents to participate in the important national days in order to build harmony and unity among the people of the nation. The Buddhist morality teaching monks are the official teachers at the Buddhist Holiday Centers. Their main duties are to train children and youth and also to be examination committee in supervising the Dhamma curriculum and examination in both government and private educational institutions and other institutions. In addition, they also have the duties in: supporting welfare and public utilities of schools and communities; inculcating the sense of democratic citizenship; and also being a leader in preserving the Thai cultures and traditions to be long lasting in Thai society.
