ANALYSIS OF USEFUL CONDUCT PRINCIPLES IN BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES

Abstract

This academic article presents to study the principles of ‘useful conducts’ (Pali: atthacariya) and to analyze the goals of the principles in Buddhist scriptures. that the useful conducts involve practices of precept (Pali: sala), meditation (Pali: samadhi) and wisdom (Pali: pañña). These are beneficial to oneself and the others in the present time, next life and lead to the highest benefit or nirvana.The goal of the principle in individual aspect refers to useful conducts and merit or perfection accumulation by performing generosity, observing precepts and practicing meditation until the practitioners reached the stream of nirvana and extinguishment of defilements. Its social goal related to the benefits that could happen within family, society and country. The methods causing these are helping each other, sharing wealth, knowledge and appliances, forgiving, polite speech, consistent action, humility, faith in Dhamma and living with peace.
