A STUDY OF INFLUENCES ON INSTITUTIONAL SELECTION TO STUDY AT PRABOROMARAJCHANOK INSTITUTE, MINISTRY OF PUBLIC HEALTH

Abstract
Due to market expansion regarding public and private educations, the production of nursing students, and health sciences accommodating needs for more people to study in this field, the purpose of this predictive research aims to study influences of factors on admission choices to study at Praboromarajchanok Institute, Ministry of Public Health, concerning health sciences education. The samples in this research include 1st-year students from the Institute, specifically 130 from the colleges having Open House activities, namely Boromarajonani College of Nursing Sanpasitthiprasong. College of Nursing, and Sirindhorn College of Public Health, Ubon Ratchathani province. The tools used for data collection are general data record forms and a questionnaire on reasons for choosing to study health sciences and factors influencing the choice to study there. The confidence value was .86. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The results showed a mean score of 3.59 (SD = .58, range = 1.67-5) on decision to study the health sciences of the sample. Individuals’ cognitive factors were the best predictors, with 44.4% (β = 1.26, p < .001) prediction. The product factor is the second predictor, with 7.5% (β = .814, p < .001) prediction. Other factor was the third predictors, with 6.3% (β = .70, p < .001) prediction. Finally, the selection system factor variable was the fourth predictor, with 2.4% (β = .65, p < .001) prediction. All four predictors were able to predict Institutional Selection to Study at Praboromarajchanok Institute, Ministry of Public Health by 60.6% (R2 = .606, Adjust R2 = .593, F48.049=7.57, p < .001).
