AN ANALYTICAL STUDY ON APPROACHES IN PROMOTING THE FIVE PRECEPTS OBSERVATION OF THE VILLAGES OBSERVING THE FIVE PRECEPTS IN KHAMKHUEANKAEW DISTRICT, YASOTHORN PROVINCE

Abstract

The research aimed 1) to study the principle of the Five Precepts observation in Buddhism; 2) to study the approaches in promoting the Five Precepts observation of the Five Precepts observation villages in Khamkhuenkaew District, Yasothorn Province; 3) to analytically compare the approaches in promoting the Five Precepts observation of the Five Precepts observation villages in Khamkhuenkaew District, Yasothorn Province. It was a survey research. The population in the area of this research was 3,539 living in 6 villages of Khamkhuenkaew District, Yasothorn Province. The sampling group of 379 people was determined through the Krejcie and Morgan table. The instrument used in this research was a questionnaire. Findings of this research were as follows: The overall analytical study on approaches in promoting the Five Precepts observation of the Five Precepts observation villages in Khamkhuenkaew District, Yasothorn Province was at moderate level. When it was considered by aspect, all the aspects were also at a moderate level and they could be chronologically ordered from the highest to the lowest level as the followings: Promotion of Buddhist Holy Days; Promotion of abstention from allurements which lead to ruin in all festivals; Promotion of chanting mantra through to the new year; Promotion of abstention from allurements which lead to ruin in funerals. In analytical comparison of the approaches in promoting the Five Precepts observation of the Five Precepts observation villages in Khamkhuenkaew District, Yasothorn Province: the overall people with different age and education level had no difference in the approaches in promoting the Five Precepts observation but the people with different sex and profession had different approaches in promoting the Five Precepts observation with statistical significance at .05 level.
